It will only be running Waves plugins though. Soundgrid is at this point a proprietary DSP system just like the UAD-2 so you would have to use just like you do the UAD -2. Your DAW will handle the delay compensation fine. The UAD does add latency into the signal chain though. If you are using soundgrid as a part of a Digigrid network then you could technically use the UAD and sound grid plugins together since the UAD DSP ill be running in your DAW juts like the soudngrid plugins. They have hinted at possibly adding support for 3nrd party VST but not sure if/when that will happen. No soundgrid only works at this point with Waves plugins. Connectivity between Interfaces and the computer is through Ethernet thus accommodating long distance runs and inexpensive wiring. The SoundGrid system has an extensive routing protocol enabling the connection of multiple interfaces - computers and servers. The DSP resources in the larger SG servers can accommodate quite large plug in counts StudioRack (the rack plugin for holding up to 8 SoundGrid Plugins) instantiates in the DAW instead of in a separate mixer (though the eMotion mixer can be used very much like Apollo if desired) Since you are using an Apollo this would be only using the DSP processing and none of the i/o or tracking capabilities (since the Audio engine would be SoundGrid - not UAD).Īlthough the two systems share some concepts (both have onboard DSP and can enable low latency tracking regardless of DAW buffer) they are also quite different.

SoundGrid Studio Software (includes eMotion mixer, SoundGrid Studio, StudioRack plugin and Drivers) At least one SoundGrid Interface (mostly made by DiGiGrid - DLS, DLI, IOS, MGB, MGO, IOX, IOC - last two are not quite released yet). I just want the DSP of soundgrid so i can keep my computer free of the processing.

Both systems have their own virtual console for tracking and routing and stuff. They say a bunch of things the system can do. Waves doesnt do a very good job at explaining how the whole system works really. The similar competitor of course is Waves and their whole digigrid and soundgrid. I currently have an apollo with onboard DSP.
